The NRL finals are a completely different beast to regular-season footy. Defence tightens, games slow down, and experience matters more than ever. Successful finals betting requires adjusting your approach. The 2026 finals begin in mid-September and run to the Grand Final at Accor Stadium, Sydney on Sunday 4 October (7:30pm AEDT).
How the Finals Work
The top eight teams qualify. Weeks 1 and 2 use the double-chance system — win in week 1 and you get a week off. Lose and you get a second chance in week 2. Week 2: Semi-Finals
Semi-finals feature losers from week 1 against winners from the elimination finals. Week 3: Preliminary Finals
The winners of the semi-finals travel to face the week 1 qualifying final winners. Home ground is massive in prelims — the crowd can genuinely influence the outcome. Back the home team on the line at minimum.
Grand Final
The Grand Final is the biggest betting event on the NRL calendar. Key factors:
